Quite often, people might assume someone is a hoarder when in fact they just tend to have a lot of clutter around their home. While there are distinct differences between the two terms, it's sometimes a fine line discerning between the two. Generally, a hoarder tends to save everything including many items with little or no value. They rarely throw anything away, virtually every flat surface and furniture in the home is covered with their possessions, and housekeeping is minimal at best. More serious problems may also exist, and this is when hoarding can become very dangerous to the safety and health of anyone living in the home. Some of the telltale signs you might find are strong odors, impassable walkways and entrances into rooms, cluttered stairways, and general disarray. In extreme cases you may find spoiled food, pet feces present, rodent infestations and many items in need of repair such as electrical outlets, appliances doors and more. Clutter on the other hand is simply a disorganized mess. This might include leaving things out of place such as a pile of clothes on a piece of furniture, papers/mail on a kitchen countertop, toys left out etc. The main difference between hoarding and clutter is if you have clutter it can usually be cleaned up in a short period of time versus days or weeks to clean up a hoarding situation. If you're a Hoarder, it can be exceptionally frustrating for yourself, family members, and friends. When this occurs, it's time for someone to decide what steps are necessary in order to alleviate this problem. Your first step is to decide how you're going to tackle the situation. You need a plan. Keep in mind though; many hoarders have a disorder which may be due to (ADHD), attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, (OCPD), obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, (OCD) obsessive-compulsive disorder, or depression. This can cause a real problem, as most hoarders do not believe they have a problem to begin with...and will have difficulty with the process of cleaning up and throwing items away. This situation needs to be handled delicately. You may need a health professional and a cleaning company with experience in dealing with hoarding situations. Whatever you decide, please help alleviate a hoarding situation before it becomes too late. The last thing you want is to see someone get hurt or continue suffering from a situation that is out of their control.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all. As we finished out our busy Estate Sale season we were left with a ton of toys. Thanks to a wonderful customer of ours (Lacy), we have combined efforts with Channel 13 and the Salvation Army's Toys for Tots to make sure these toys get a special home for the holidays. We hope it brings Joy, Peace for the family's, and Comfort in these trying times.
